Reading

"Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him."

  1. One of my greatest treasures is at www.delcolibraries.org. Every book in any library in the entire Delaware County Library System is right at your fingertips. Families can sign up for the on-line service which includes ordering the book you want to be delivered to your closest library and receiving emails alerts as to your books' delivery status and your books' due date. You can also have access to books available as e-books that can be downloaded to your iPad or Kindle. Not EVERY book is available as an e-book, but more are added every day.

Additionally, there are countless opportunities to engage your child over the summer. Friendly video game competitions to conversations with local authors are a part of this tremendous community outreach.

I am particularly interested in my students having access to the e-books through their iPads. If you would like more specific information, I'll be happy to try to answer it or you contact your local library. Since I use the system extensively, I will be more than happy to help your child navigate the site to find the book they want.

Being able to find a great book to read at your local library is a gift attributed to Benjamin Franklin. If only he knew that we have access to all 26 Delaware County Libraries with the push of a button, I think he would be thrilled!
